Local Wine Country google map itineraries

Where should I go in wine country?  That is one of the most common questions I get (the 2nd most-asked question is what wine should I pair with [x] dish?)  Following are some Google Map itineraries I’ve made for visiting wine country.

SONOMA VALLEY - UNUSUAL FIELD BLENDS

3-day trip
NAPA VALLEY - CABERNET SAUVIGNON

1-day trip

Due to popular demand, I’ve updated my extract of Open Table’s BYOB feature. It’s suggested to verify with the restaurant when you make your reservation.

Oysters have a surprisingly narrow wine pairing range, the pairing is finicky and it depends on which oyster and which wine.  The ideal oyster wine pairing is one where the wine enhances the flavor of the oyster and you finish eating/drinking the two together thinking to yourself, “That was a really great oyster!”

It took us three rounds of tasting.  Round I, we sampled a whole bunch of different oysters and a whole bunch of different wines.  Round II we repeated with a whittled down handful of oyster varieties and some of the same + different wines.  Round III we re-tasted the difficult to pair oysters each with two top contender wine pairings.  Watch for our event, coming to San Francisco this Feb 23, 2012!
